The Tao Of Taxonomy Webinar, Wed 29th August 2012, 10am-11am (PT)

One of our featured DAM vendors, Picture Park, are running another in their series of DAM related webinars.  This event has the title DAM and the Tao of Taxonomy and it takes place on Wednesday 29th August 2012 at 10am Pacific Time (which is 6pm UK or 7pm for those in mainland Europe).  Along with Picture Park’s, David Diamond (author of the DAM Survival Guide) this event features metadata guru, David Riecks who runs the Controlled Vocabulary website and user group:

There’s no better way to make digital asset management software usable than by making good use of taxonomies and controlled vocabularies. Metadata consistency and easier search are only the start of the benefits these technologies offer. Join renowned taxonomy and controlled vocabulary expert, David Riecks (controlledvocabulary.com), and “DAM Survival Guide” author David Diamond (DAMSurvivalGuide.com) for a free session designed to help you understand these topics better, and learn how to put them to work for you. David Riecks is a DAMMY Awards judge and also the recipient of the Library of Congress “Digital Preservation Pioneer” award.” [Read More]

For anyone who isn’t able to attend, the Picture Park website also has links to YouTube videos of the previous events: http://w4.picturepark.com/resources/webinars/

Despite their sponsorship of the event, the Picture Park webinars are reasonably vendor neutral and both speakers at this event have a significant amount of experience at the sharp end of DAM delivery and implementation – especially David Riecks when it comes to taxonomies and metadata.  One would normally expect to have to pay to get this kind of specialist DAM consulting advice from speakers with demonstrable expertise and compared to many other vendor sponsored webinars (which are often like poorly delivered ‘infomercials’) these look well worth checking out.

I have a feeling this will be great for others too. I encourage all of your readers to join us–everyone is welcome!
