We are looking for a Taxonomist to develop a consumer interest taxonomy to power market reach and to improve the advertising experience for people and businesses. The right candidate with be self-directed, capable of working independently in ambiguous environments to define deliverables, shape outcomes and lead teams toward successful results. The candidate must be able to thrive in a flat, fast-moving environment that relies on lightweight processes to deliver huge impact.


Responsibilities:

  • Select, validate and cluster like terms from a flat list into a structured model that can be easily navigated. Generate logic and standards for terminology selection and maintenance throughout the taxonomy's life cycle
  • Create standards for how the taxonomy will be maintained and governed throughout its lifecycle
  • Support multiple client teams so they understand category foundations and elements to make connections between them in order to build a semantic data model
  • Develop and apply in-depth expertise for how our customers perceive and think about our products, their classification and attributes in order to search for them, including researching and modeling concept or product categories and attribute nuances across different locales
  • Work closely with engineers to build machine learning and other classification models, prioritizing and managing projects and deliverables effectively while adapting to changing business needs, processes and requirements
  • Provide guidance about ontologies and semantic representations, supporting recommendations with data
  • Analyze and optimize processes, owning data integrity and taxonomy effectiveness
  • Coordinate and build alignment with teams and stakeholders across Facebook's family of apps and service to optimize for consistency and interoperability
  • Promote taxonomy at the company and in the broader community of design and content professionals

Mininum Qualifications:

  • 3+ years experience developing and managing product, SEO/SEM, Ad Tech, and/or advertising taxonomies
  • Experience using taxonomy management systems to maintain categories, attributes, and other metadata
  • Proven experience presenting technical and metadata information to technical and non-technical audiences
  • Proven experience working on projects and delivering in customer-focused, cross-functional teams
  • Experience thinking product strategy and vision
  • Experience with SQL

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Library Science or Information Management
  • Experience in Fashion and eCommerce

Although this position is remote to start out - the position will require to be onsite in the office after COVID19 settles
