The Opportunity

The Taxonomist will play a critical role in defining, developing, and organizing the taxonomy of a retail category.  Balancing the needs of internal demands and market trends, the role will lead the internal discussion of data integrity for the category, while ensuring the compatibility and enhancement of online search and other initiatives.  As a taxonomy subject matter expert for a retail product category, develop a taxonomy and controlled vocabularies for internal and customer-facing implementation. Own that category’s data integrity and taxonomy effectiveness, proactively review for any gaps in the data, and respond quickly to the needs of stakeholders throughout QVC. Plan and lead meetings to ensure alignment.

**This role will be located at QVC headquarters in West Chester, PA, and therefore must be commutable within the Philadelphia region as this role is NOT relocation eligible.**

Your Impact

  • Own a category’s data integrity and taxonomy effectiveness, proactively review for any gaps in the data, and respond quickly to the needs of stakeholders throughout QVC. Plan and lead meetings to ensure alignment.
  • Analyze requests from internal teams and provide rationale and solution documentation to solve taxonomy and item creation challenges.
  • Maximize the effectiveness of the technology infrastructure that supports item creation, taxonomy and additional product information and work to improve tools and processes.
  • Create and maintain documentation for managing item creation, taxonomies, and additional product data.
  • With stakeholders, optimize standards and workflow requirements for product information used by our external and internal customers.
  • Champion the adherence to these standards. Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
What you bring  

  • Bachelor’s Degree in English, Information Management, or equivalent experience required, Master’s Degree in Library Science or Information Management strongly preferred.
  •  Minimum 2+ years directly related taxonomy experience in a similar environment required.
  • Demonstrated experience working with Dalet, Ooyala, DAM, AEM and MAM systems.
  • Well versed with information management, creating and implementing metadata standards, schemas and taxonomies.
  • Proficiency working with Microsoft Office Suite; Excel Word, and Powerpoint.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify process improvements, work independently to represent the department in interdepartmental projects, and understand and disseminate complex technical information to a wider audience.
  • Must be flexible to accommodate changing demands of a global, 24-7 e-commerce environment, with the ability to work On Call as needed.
  • Able to maintain composure and focus while navigating a high volume workload at an accelerated pace.
