We are seeking a detail-oriented Digital Asset Management (DAM) Contractor to keep our image library (19,000+ photos and growing) organized and up to date. This individual will also help coordinate image capture assignments with our talented roster of freelance photographers and videographers.

This contract requires strong attention to detail, critical thinking, stakeholder communications and problem-solving skills. Discover Durham’s Director of Design & Analytics will oversee this contract and the fulfillment of outputs.

This role is remote. Hours will vary week to week and month to month but are anticipated to total approximately 10-15 hours per week. Expensed travel and other related costs are required to be pre-approved. Budgeted hourly rate for primary responsibilities as outlined here is $20-$25 per hour, although additional pay may be negotiated for optional responsibilities (as listed below) and will be commensurate with candidate skill & experience. Anticipated contract dates: mid-March - May 31, 2024.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Organization of Discover Durham’s photo and video assets, including:
  • Ingesting new images from our staff, freelancers and partners and labeling them with the appropriate captions, tags and other metadata
  • Publishing collections and galleries of updated imagery to our private online DAM (Photoshelter for Brands) and select collections to public repositories such as Wikimedia Creative Commons
  • Maintaining documentation on model releases and image rights/licenses
  • Communication and coordination with our local attractions, businesses and other community partners to solicit existing photography they may have and to organize photo/video capture opportunities
  • Coordination of freelance photographers, videographers, and modelsfor photo/video assignments
  • Delivering selects of images to internal stakeholders, marketing partners and external media upon project completion or media inquiry
  • Contribute to diversity, equity and inclusion audits and other related audits of Discover Durham’s multimedia assets
Qualifications

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Experience organizing and applying metadata to images using Adobe Lightroom Classic
  • Knowledge of image metadata best practices, with understanding of various IPTC metadata fields including titles, captions, tags, and copyright info
  • Experience publishing tagged photography/videography assets to a DAM, online stock library, Creative Commons archive or similar online catalog/repository for wider user discovery and viewing
  • Ability to intake, organize, clarify, and articulate requests as well as develop and manage timelines
  • Communication and interpersonal skills to engage with external partners. This role will occasionally require emails and calls to local businesses and attractions
  • Computer skills using Microsoft Office, Outlook and cloud-based internet technologies
  • Must supply own computer and internet connection capable of remote desktop access
Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in using Photoshelter DAM, with experience using the Lightroom plugin for Photoshelter being a plus.
  • Experience using Asana and Dropbox to stay organized in projects.
  • Familiarity with the travel and tourism industry.
Optional Responsibilities:

  • Depending on the contractor’s skillsets, additional work including multimedia production or photo editing to be included as part of this agreement, budgeted pay, and anticipated monthly hours. Qualifications for such additional responsibilities may include any of the following:
  • Basic photo-editing, including toning, color-correcting, cropping, and de-noising raw image files.
  • Basic b-roll editing, including ingesting raw footage, color-correcting & stabilizing selects, and rendering out final sequences.
