Reporting to the Head of Collections Management and Registration, the Digital Asset Management Specialist is charged with developing and maintaining the infrastructure of the museum's digital asset management platform. This individual will lead efforts in migrating and organizing existing media, chiefly images, to complete the Kimbell Art Museum's implementation of a Digital Asset Management system (DAM).

Specific Duties:

  • Work closely with the Kimbell's internal stakeholders to consolidate, organize, and distribute the museum's digital assets according to media usage and storage standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Create and enforce naming taxonomies and metadata schemes, tag files with relevant and accurate metadata, enforce asset file standards, and ensure application documentation is up to date.
  • Distribute assets to internal users and external partners.
  • Enforce digitization and photography standards.
  • Lead training and education for staff.
  • Facilitate the integration of digital media assets into the TMS Media Studio database from all museum departments, and work closely with IT staff and staff in departments across the institution to improve access to digital assets for daily use, special projects, and initiatives.
  • Collaborate with and advise TMS Media Studio administrator on configuration and customization of the TMS Media Studio server application and other software for image handling and metadata application.
  • Work closely with TMS Media Studio administrator to improve and expand the distribution of and access to still images, video, and other digital assets for museum staff and external clients.
  • Provide quality control for all metadata to assure accuracy and consistency across the institution. This includes developing and managing metadata tools, controlled vocabularies, and other metadata standardization solutions.
  • Assist in bringing existing assets up to appropriate standards, including reorganizing file directories and metadata cleanup projects.
  • Provide operational support to individual staff DAM software users and conduct new user training.
Qualifications:

  • BA or BS in Library Science, Museum Studies, Computer Science, or a related field. Master's degree preferred.
  • 2 + years of practical experience in a museum, archives, or library image archive, including database management, software administration, digital rights management, metadata standards and practices, file formatting, and data migration.
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to collaborate with staff at all levels across the institution and with outside organizations and vendors.
  • Proven ability to think strategically
  • Excellent problem-solving and organizational skills.
  • Experience with TMS, digital asset management systems, and print and media technologies preferred.
  • An understanding of intellectual property law, including "fair use" and similar copyright issues related to the use, storage, and distribution of digital assets
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others as part of a team and independently.
  • Must possess the drive and focus necessary to improve and expand the distribution of and access to the museum's permanent collection and exhibition assets through digital media.
  • Team player who can organize information at a high level, multi-task in a fast-paced environment, and creatively solve problems.
  • Applicants must be able to pass a pre-employment criminal background and drug screening.
