“Taxonomies are useful tools for bringing users to desired content, but tools are also needed to create and manage taxonomies. A simple controlled vocabulary, or a small hierarchical taxonomy that lacks non-preferred terms, could be created on paper (or word processor). A more typical larger taxonomy, or a more complex thesaurus with equivalence, hierarchical, and associative relationships, and perhaps also scope notes and term attributes, however, requires specialised database software for its creation and maintenance.” [Read More]
