The Office of Communications is the proactive voice of the University of Toronto Mississauga. It handles all broad-based marketing initiatives on campus including branding, visual identity standards and advertising. Working collaboratively and strategically with academic and administrative units across the campus as well as with our community partners and media, we enhance understanding and support of U of T Mississauga nationally and internationally.

The Communications team seeks a Web Content Strategist who understands the value of
consistent, intuitive and up-to-date website content and can use that understanding to create and oversee outstanding content for the campus’s 18 academic units. Reporting to the Director, Marketing & Communications Content, the successful candidate will liaise with academic departments to create, post and maintain high-quality, on-brand and well-organized website content in the campus’s Drupal web environment. This individual will identify emerging opportunities to improve departmental website content, ensure that site content is updated to meet critical milestones during the academic cycle and will analyze metrics and user feedback to make recommendations on tactics, search engine optimization and content renewal/removal. Using critical thinking and professionalism, this individual will act as a key campus resource, handle competing deadlines and build strong relationships with campus and university colleagues, in support of UTM’s strategic communications objectives.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Building and strengthening relationships with campus stakeholders and partners
  • Writing and editing copy and content to advance communications objectives and academic priorities
  • Analyzing and recommending options for the development of visual expression/layout of digital assets
  • Verifying that all digital communication collateral adheres to brand identity and University style guides
  • Ensuring that website content and navigation are intuitive and visually compelling to target audiences
  • Advising on strategies to align departmental websites with campus communications vision
  • Turning analytic data into effective web content strategy
Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
  • Minimum five (5) years of web content experience, preferably in a post-secondary or not-for-profit environment
  • Minimum two (2) years of experience with creating digital assets
  • Minimumtwo (2) years of experience with website digital analytics
  • Minimum two (2) years of experience with web content strategy, preferably including SEO and UX
  • Excellent writing, editing, copy editing and proofreading skills
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, particularly with Teams
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational and communication skills, and the ability to interact comfortably and respectfully with all levels of academic and administrative staff
  • Ability to manage conflicting priorities and shifting deadlines
  • Familiarity/experience with website content management systems, e.g. Drupal
Assets (Nonessential):

  • Familiarity with the University of Toronto or other university environments is highly desirable
  • Familiarity with digital asset management
  • Familiarity with the Drupal CMS, or similar products
  • Familiarity with Adobe Creative Cloud software
  • Familiarity with workflow management software, e.g. Asana, Basecamp
