As a Usage Rights Manager, you will be responsible for managing and protecting the IP rights of various assets, including images, videos, music, and the full scope of usage rights. You will collaborate closely with creative teams, procurement, legal departments, and external partners to ensure compliance with copyright laws and licensing agreements. The ideal candidate has a strong understanding of intellectual property rights, exceptional communication skills, and a passion for safeguarding creative works.

You will:

  • Rights Management: Manage the acquisition, tracking, and maintenance of usage rights for all assets used by the organization, including images, videos, music, and intellectual property – ensure contracts are accurately recorded and up to date in all platforms and systems.
  • Licensing and Permissions: Research, negotiate, and secure necessary licenses and permissions for the usage of third-party assets, ensuring compliance with copyright laws and licensing agreements.
  • Copyright Compliance: Stay updated on PMI regulations, monitoring best methodologies to ensure adherence to legal requirements and mitigate the risk of copyright infringement.
  • Claims Handling: Manage all claims put forward by third parties, assessing their validity and taking appropriate actions to address them. Coordinate with relevant parties to resolve any disputes or issues arising from claims.
  • Brand Compliance: Proactively investigate and monitor brand compliance issues to identify potential violations. Collaborate with partners to develop strategies for brand protection and compliance improvement.
  • Collaboration: Liaise with internal partners, including creative teams, marketing, legal, and external partners, to ensure that all usage rights requirements are met throughout the content creation process.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Maintain comprehensive records of all acquired rights and licenses, ensuring accurate and up-to-date documentation. Generate reports and provide regular updates on the status of rights management to relevant stakeholders.
  • Risk Assessment: Conduct risk assessments to identify potential issues related to usage rights and develop strategies to mitigate risks effectively.
  • Vendor Management: Collaborate with external vendors and licensors to negotiate favourable terms, track usage, and resolve any disputes or issues that arise.
  • Process Improvement: Continuously evaluate and enhance rights management processes to streamline operations and improve efficiency.
We’re looking for someone with:

  • Proven experience in rights management, copyright compliance, or intellectual property management.
  • Strong knowledge on media production processes and understanding of various asset types, such as images, videos, and music.
  • Proven record of experience with copyright laws, licensing agreements, and industry best practices for rights management.
  • Excellent negotiation and communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with internal teams, external partners, and legal professionals.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and strong organizational skills to manage multiple assets and agreements simultaneously.
  • Proficiency in using rights management software or digital asset management (DAM) systems.
  • Analytical and problem-solving abilities to assess risks and develop effective mitigation strategies.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
