The U.S. Consumer Services and Enterprise Digital & Data Technology Team brings together foundational strategic technology capabilities in digital experience engineering (Mobile and Web), AI/ML, marketing technology, enterprise communications, travel and lifestyle, and automation, grounded in our data technology model that prioritizes data governance. It employs a ground-breaking focus with development responsibilities for customer-facing capabilities that deepen and expand digital engagement, as well as core technical capabilities that cut across business lines and customer segments.
We’re looking for a highly skilled and motivated Senior Engineer with a history of leading Java Applications, and/or RESTful APIs using Java. Someone who fosters a culture of high quality and innovation using new capabilities to drive the release of resilient, robust, and performant solutions, to help us build a global platform that will form a backbone of American Express’s Marketing ecosystem. We need someone who can help us evolve our thinking and engineering to ensure that our platform grows in a sustainable way, delivering business value faster and adapting rapidly to change.
When joining the Marketing Platforms team, this role will be focused on leading a team of engineers on its Marketing Digital Asset Manager Platform to deliver innovative solutions to satisfy the needs of our business. As an agile team we work closely with our business partners to understand what they require, and we strive to continuously improve as a team. We all have a role in accelerating our delivery of high quality reliable and resilient code, and you will have the opportunity to look at the bigger picture and steer the team in the right direction, being cognizant of developments across the wider enterprise.

Key Responsibilities:
- Work with product owners to define requirements for new features, build product roadmaps and plan increments of work.
- Partner with the business and development teams on prioritizing the right problems to solve, providing more time to focus on implementing new capabilities.
- Develop strong working relationships with all levels of the organization, including our executive leaders in technology, business partners, and development leaders to achieve results and enact wide-scale impact across the organization.
- Collaborate with Vendor Resource and third-party Supplier partners to optimize day-to-day operations. Ensure the right work is assigned to the right team, resulting in efficient performance, quality and availability of applications and technology platforms.
- Mentor and guide team members to success; identify strengths and areas for growth in direct reports and guides them to grow in their careers while being more productive on the team.
- Nurture an environment of continuous engineering improvement through mentoring, feedback, and metrics.
- Working with Engineering Director to hire top talent for the team.
- Influence innovative changes and improvements by challenging status quo and demonstrating risk taking.
- 10 plus years of relevant IT work experience plus at least 5 years of people management experience
- 5 plus years of onshore/offshore coordination skills
- Proven experience in automating and optimizing development workflows.
- Strong proficiency in AEM development, customization, and configuration. In-depth knowledge of AEM architecture, assets, sling APIs, Schedulers, OSGI services and workflows.
- Experience with front-end technologies such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Node and React.
- Proven experience in digital asset management or related field, preferably in an enterprise environment. Strong knowledge of digital asset management principles, practices, and technologies.
- Familiarity with digital asset management systems (DAM), metadata standards, and taxonomy management
- Hands-on engineer with expertise in developing complex, large-scale enterprise applications.
- Experience in capacity planning, continuous performance improvements, and identifying issues before they occur.
- Prior meaningful technology and business/industry work experience including extensive hands-on experience in architecture design and deployment, systems life cycle management, infrastructure planning.
- Able to weigh several, often conflicting constraints and make rapid decisions in a high-pressure environment.
- Foundation in design, data structures and algorithms, and strong analytical and debugging skills with customer-facing products experience.
