School Archivist
The Winsor School, Boston’s preeminent girls school for academically promising and motivated students in grades 5 through 12, seeks a professional part-time archivist to steward its archival collection. The school is home to a diverse, vibrant community that values intellectual curiosity, authentic engagement, and personal integrity, challenging students to lead lives of purpose as responsible, generous-minded women. The archivist plays a critical role in the community, helping the extended school community strengthen their long-term connection to Winsor and celebrating their contributions to the school.
Reporting to the director of strategic communications and with transitional support from the current archivist and archivist emerita, the school archivist will preserve Winsor’s history while making archival materials accessible to the school community. This role involves organizing and digitizing the existing collection, developing best practices for long-term archival preservation, and implementing a Digital Asset Management (DAM) system. In this capacity, the archivist will bring technical expertise to the collection so that all aspects of school life are archived, and will transition the archives from traditional maintenance status to high professional standards. The archivist will also facilitate research, assist with special projects, and contribute to publications and events that celebrate Winsor’s rich history.

Key Responsibilities:
- Identify, solicit, accession, appraise, and preserve archival material, including analog, digital, and hybrid records
- Identify and launch a Digital Asset Management tool for the collection and initiate digitization projects
- Develop policies related to collection development and use
- Collect and arrange analog, digital, and hybrid collections through finding aids, inventories, and databases
- Document and monitor the school art collection
- Provide appropriate access to the archival collection and ensure that the school community is aware of the available resources
- Respond to requests for information or research assistance from alumnae, faculty, staff, students, and outside researchers
- Support the Communications Department by supplying archival materials for brochures, website content, Bulletin content, publications about the school
- Develop displays for and provide support during occasional special events such as Alumnae Weekend
- Experience in archival work, particularly with digital collections and digitizing
- Excellent communication skills and an ability to prioritize demands
- Self-starter with ability to work independently, and with attention to detail
- A strong sense of collaboration and diplomacy
- Ability to lift and carry items weighing up to 30 pounds
