Do you want to be part of a team defining and transforming the garden & pet shopping and discovery experience? Central Garden & Pet is hiring a Product Data Taxonomist to join our PIM team!   You will be responsible for optimizing and managing the hierarchical arrangement of our product taxonomy, metadata schema, data governance, and value normalization within our PIM system.

The PIM Taxonomist will play a critical role in ensuring that all product data is classified and organized in a way that enables accurate and efficient product information management.   As our Taxonomist, you will lead data gathering activities with business units including gap analysis, discovery, and data cleansing so solid business communication skills are essential. In this role you will also support our PIM Architect in creation of data transformations for syndication to meet the various sales channel & internal data requirements.


MEASURES OF SUCCESS

  • You will have a thorough understanding of taxonomy development and management, data modeling, and major retailer requirements.
  • Optimize and manage PIM taxonomy and its metadata schema, ensuring consistent and accurate classification and mapping of product data across multiple systems.
  • Keep abreast of sales channel requirements and research relevant required and optional attributes that correspond with established taxonomies.
  • Establish and enforce product classification standards.
  • Proactively identify data model gaps and take appropriate actions to resolve.
  • Development of attributes & attribute values in accordance with best practices.
  • Develop processes to support data needs including reports, audits, and data transformation.
  • Work with a variety of business stakeholders to align CG&P’s data model and metadata schema to meet our business needs.
  • Lead workgroups and education sessions with stakeholders & new users to facilitate taxonomy understanding, compliance, and consistency within our company.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand business requirements and ensure that the taxonomy aligns with business needs.
  • Cleanse, transform, and load taxonomy data for upload into Salsify.
  • Develop and maintain documentation related to the taxonomy and ensure it is kept up to date.
  • Participate in PIM system implementations and upgrades, providing taxonomy expertise and support.
  • Assist the PIM Architect with mapping of our internal hierarchy and values to downstream channels – Retailers, B2B websites, and Sales teams.
  • Attention to detail, a quick grasp of new complex ideas, and the ability to automate manual steps are key in this role.  Clear communication with users from a wide range of backgrounds is essential.

IDEAL CANDIDATE ATTRIBUTES

  • 5+ years of experience using a PIM system with a firm understanding of best practices.
  • 2-5 years of experience in taxonomy development and management.
  • Bachelor’s degree in library science, information management or equivalent professional experience.
  • Ecommerce experience in a B2B or B2C environment (Amazon, Walmart, Chewy experience desired).
  • Strong familiarity with PIM systems and product information management best practices.
  • Salsify experience/certification desired (Experience configuring similar PIM systems a plus)
  • Thorough understanding of hierarchical product taxonomy structures, metadata schemas, master data best practices, data governance, and data modeling.
  • Detail-oriented professional with a passion for data management and product information.
  • Expert-level Excel knowledge.
  • Experience with governance principles for maintaining clean data.
  • Skills to research diverse product categories and develop best-in-class data standards.
  • Able to clearly communicate with people of different experience levels and backgrounds.
  • Manage multiple workstreams effectively to meet deadlines & the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
