Your role
Metadata and Information Management is seeking a Media Librarian to support the work of its clients in Music content production. Through the provision of Library and Information Services, you will engage with clients to facilitate the searchability, access and retrieval of media assets in our various production and preservation systems. You will also be employing your skills as an information professional in applying metadata to CBC’s content in accordance with CBC’s corporate and departmental standards and policies. Work is governed by CBC programming and journalistic policies as well as various agreements governing the possible use of these materials. There is little latitude for independent action however there is opportunity for initiative and judgment. Advice and guidance are available.
Key Tasks:

Key Tasks:
- Provides library and information services to program and administrative clients.
- Maintains a cataloguing system to manage library material, ensuring materials are catalogued to established standards.
- Assists in the selection and purchase of materials to ensure the needs of CBC programming are met.
- Prepares or enhances detailed summaries of the content of library holdings.
- Provides program material on-demand and assists Producers, Researchers, on-air personnel and others in the selection of and access to material.
- Advises program production personnel on the availability of materials.
- Provides research using relevant and appropriate resources.
- Facilitates user access to the Music Library database.
- Maintains up-to-date knowledge of the contents and workings of on-line databases.
- Manages the disposition and removal of materials when authorized to do so.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Knowledge of CBC/Radio-Canada programming and policies is an asset.
- Understanding workflows involving digital media files, systems and tools is an asset.
- Technical knowledge of recording media is an asset.
- Knowledge of metadata standards, subject analysis and controlled vocabularies.
- Knowledge of or experience cataloging digital collections.
- Up-to-date on or knowledge of authoritative sources.
- Excellent communication and organization skills.
- Some understanding of the changing music landscape (CDs to digital to streaming).
- Experience working in a client-facing role.
- Ability to develop and foster client relationships.
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to problem solve.
- Self-motivated and self-sufficient.
- 2 years of comparable and relevant experience.
- Graduate degree from an accredited library school or equivalent education and experience.
- A Master’s degree in Library Science is considered an asset.
