The Content Lifecycle team within CBC’s Transformation Office curates, describes, researches and preserves CBC content for today and tomorrow. We connect our clients to the material they need to tell great stories and we share our expertise and knowledge of CBC's rich media collections. Through our efforts, the history and culture of Canada as reflected in CBC programming is documented, preserved and accessible. Our services are available to all our regional and national content creators.
We are seeking a Media Librarian to support this work. You will provide library and information services to facilitate access and retrieval of media assets in our various production and preservation systems. You will also be employing your skills as an information professional in cataloguing CBC’s content in accordance with CBC’s corporate and departmental standards and policies. Work is governed by CBC programming and journalistic policies as well as various agreements governing the possible use of these materials. This role will be based in Vancouver.
Key Tasks:
Accurately summarize audio, video or paper materials.
Catalogue and classify content using metadata standards and controlled vocabularies.
Prepare detailed summaries of the content of programs and/or library holdings.
Provide program material and/or research information on-demand and assist Producers, Researchers, on-air personnel and others in the selection of material and the use of the library.
Advise program production personnel on the availability of broadcast materials and assist them in obtaining materials.
Research information using local resources.
Screen broadcast material and select stock footage, prepare shot lists.
Perform other duties as assigned.
We are looking for a candidate with the following:
Knowledge of metadata standards, subject analysis and controlled vocabularies.
Knowledge of or experience cataloging digital and paper collections.
Technical knowledge of recording media is an asset.
Understanding of file-based production workflows, systems and tools is an asset.
Excellent communication skills (written and verbal).
Ability to work without supervision.
Strong interpersonal skills working in a team environment.
Highly organized and detail-oriented.
Self-motivated and self-sufficient.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Ability and willingness to work overtime, evenings, early mornings, weekends and/or holidays when required.
Knowledge of CBC/Radio-Canada programming is an asset.
1 year of comparable and relevant experience.
Graduate degree from an accredited library school or equivalent education and experience.
A Master’s degree in Library Science is considered an asset.
