Lead, Enterprise Data Steward

Reporting to the Vice President, Enterprise Data Management – the Lead, Enterprise Data Steward will be instrumental in advancing our Data Governance framework, expanding our data catalog, and promoting a data-centric culture across the organization. This role involves supporting the strategic direction of operationalizing governance policies, building a community of practice through advocacy & stewardship and requires hands-on involvement in the development and implementation of data management practices.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Build a comprehensive process of populating and maintaining accurate and current data within the data catalog.
  • Create and manage enterprise view of Metadata (definitions of business terminology / valid data values) to ensure clarity and utility for all enterprise data.
  • Collect specifications on how data should be managed & collaborate with Business Data Stewards to formulate them into a set of processes and procedures to use.
  • Develop and administer organization-wide data standardization practices to ensure data consistency and reliability.
  • Tackle complex data-related problems, devising and implementing enterprise solutions to enhance data management practices.
  • Establish a comprehensive user support framework, including training and resources, to facilitate efficient use of company data.
  • Gather user feedback and drive improvements to the data catalog's usability and functionality.
  • Act as the supporting advocate for data governance, promoting widespread access and understanding of data across the organization.
  • Lead change management initiatives to encourage the adoption of new data practices and tools across various teams.
  • Data Stewardship Council meetings - responsible for collecting issues, providing status updates, decision requests, and publishing the outcomes.
  • Working with Privacy and Legal to ensure proper documentation of data classification is captured, maintained, and shared with technical stewards.
  • Communicate new processes and procedures that are published and listed in a newly created Data Governance/Data Stewardship communication portal.
  • Design and execute a content strategy to educate stakeholders on best practices in data stewardship, including developing presentations and facilitating workshops.
  • Engage with key stakeholders to align data stewardship goals with business objectives and to ensure cross-functional collaboration.
Key Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, math, or a field related to information, data management, analytics, or financial services.
  • 5-7+ years of experience in implementing enterprise level data governance and data management requirements.
  • Experience with data governance/quality tools.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written to effectively promote the importance of data quality and governance and to influence data practices across the organization.
  • Excellent collaborative skills with the ability to demonstrate diplomacy and negotiations across functions.
  • Demonstratable experience of operating in a Data Governance framework that includes using, updating or creating data related policies, standards and procedures.
  • Proficiency in utilizing data profiling tools and methodologies, with a strong ability to promote and enforce data standardization.
  • Skilled in documenting data lineage and maintaining detailed records of data sources.
  • Experience in developing and delivering user support and training programs.
  • Strong project management abilities to oversee data stewardship initiatives and ensure the achievement of objectives.
