The Information Resources Assistant (Cataloguing, Archives and Records Management) is responsible for:
- Performing subject and metadata analysis of library material in all formats; monographs, serials, electronic books, and electronic resources.
- Creating, editing, and maintaining bibliographic records for monographs, serials, films and electronic resources that describe and identify each item being catalogued.
- Updating and revising authority records in the Cataloguing module to ensure consistent access within Alma and shared ILS environment.
- Ensuring that preservation/conservation practices are followed for material housed in the Eaton Special Collections Room.
- Organizing and maintaining the College’s Records Centre management program, which requires a high level of confidentiality.
- Completing statistical and other reports for the use of subject librarians in preparing collection assessments for departmental external reviews.
- Providing backup support for the Information Resources Assistant (Acquisitions: Monographs/Serials) and the
- Information Resources Assistant (Electronic Resources and Emerging Technologies), which requires a solid knowledge of their major accountabilities, and how their tasks interact and contribute to customer service.
- Assuming a leadership role at the Service Desk during scheduled shifts.
- Providing comprehensive technical assistance to library patrons with questions about passwords, wireless access, printing, copying, email, off-campus access to library resources, and in the use of word processing, spreadsheet, course management and other software.
- Providing research assistance by helping patrons with the use of information resources, and by helping patrons find relevant print and electronic material to support course assignments.
- Library Technician’s Diploma or the equivalent from a recognized institution,
- A Bachelor’s degree in a Liberal Arts discipline is preferred.
- Minimum three years of library experience with integrated library systems (ILS), including cataloguing, is essential.
- Special collection (preservation/conservation) and/or archival experience is preferred,
- knowledge of RAD, and records management certification is highly desirable
