Enterprise Data Architect

Purpose

As an Enterprise Data Architect, you will play a critical role in designing, developing, and maintaining our data architecture, with a focus on supporting our AI-driven initiatives.  This position requires a deep understanding of data management principles, database technologies, and a strategic mindset to align data initiatives with overall business goals.

Reporting into Head of Enterprise Architecture, The Enterprise Data Architect will collaborate with cross-functional teams, including other architects, data engineers, analysts, and business stakeholders, to ensure that data solutions meet our requirements for scalability, security, and performance.

Job Role Accountabilities

Data Strategy and architecture

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive data strategy.
  • Design and implement scalable and efficient data models, databases, and data integration solutions.
  • Own & maintain the current Azure hosted Enterprise Data Platform, developing roadmaps & proposed transition states.
  • Collaborate with solution architects to integrate data architecture with overall system architecture.
AI Initiatives

  • Collaborate with AI Architect to develop AI initiatives.
  • Identify and evaluate data sources, both internal and external, to support AI initiatives
  • Collaborate with data scientists, machine learning engineers, and other stakeholders to integrate AI models into the overall data architecture.
  • Ensure seamless communication between AI components and existing systems.
Data Modelling and Analysis

  • Design and maintain robust data models that facilitate efficient storage, retrieval, and analysis of structured and unstructured data.
  • Implement data modelling best practices to support AI algorithm development and training.
Technology Evaluation

  • Stay on top of emerging technologies and industry trends in AI, data management, and analytics.
  • Support data related RFI/RFP processes and the identification & implementation of new technologies / services.
Data Security and Privacy

  • Implement and enforce data security measures to protect sensitive information.
  • Ensure compliance with data privacy regulations and work to mitigate risks related to data breaches.
Examples of Activities

  • Engage with business stakeholders to understand what value can be delivered using the data we hold as enterprise.
  • Create and manage data related roadmap, delivery phases, data models.
  • Support other business areas with data solution designs, estimates & costs for business cases.
  • Review and enhance the group data platform, fine-tuning components, enhancing data models and ensuring the business get maximum value from its data
Qualifications

  • Educated to A’ level or relevant professional experience at this level - essential
Desirable:

  • Data Architecture/Management certification
  • GDPR/Data Protection qualification
Skills and Experience

  • Significant experience in Data Management profession
  • Proven experience as a Data Architect with a focus on AI
  • Strong proficiency in data modelling, database design, and data warehousing.
  • Knowledge of cloud-based big data frameworks such as data lake, relational, Graph and other no-SQL databases
  • At least 5 years hands-on experience designing, developing & implementing multi-tenant solutions using Azure Databricks for data pipelines, machine learning solutions and Power BI family.
  • Familiar with Cloud and Data Management trends, including open source projects, methodologies (connect and collect, hub and spoke, data fabrics, etc.) and leading commercial vendors that relate to data acquisition, management and the semantic web.
  • Knowledge of data analytical programming languages e.g. Python, R
  • Knowledge of data governance, privacy, and security best practices.
  • Quickly understands business problems and requirements and derives workable actions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to express ideas clearly and concisely.
  • Ability to constructively challenge requirements and current state to increase overall value to the organisation.
  • Strong relationship-building skills
  • Flexibility to adjust to multiple demands, shifting priorities, ambiguity and rapid change.
  • Experience with AI frameworks and tools would be beneficial.
  • Financial services (e.g. pension, insurance) background would be beneficial
