Oakville Public Library (OPL) has a temporary opportunity for a Collections and Content Librarian.
Under the leadership of the Manager, Collections Development, the temporary Collections and Content Librarian role will complete the Library of Things (LOT) Framework project to support the department in their deliverables and operations.

As a Collections and Content Librarian for the LOT Framework Project you will:

  • Work in collaboration with Customer Experience and Technology departments to create and implement a new Library of Things Collections Framework.
  • Configure and test the new framework within Symphony WorkFlows
  • Coordinate and implement the migration of existing Library of Things (LOT) collections to align with the updated structure
  • Launch multiple in-progress collections using the new LOT model
  • Create and document a streamlined maintenance workflow for the new framework in collaboration with the Collections and Customer Experience departments.
  • Work with Customer Experience staff to create standard documentation and training for revised LOT processes and new collections to ensure consistency and sustainability.
  • Work with the Collections department and Marketing team to increase visibility and searchability for the LOT collection across multiple platforms
  • Plan and execute the logistics for the new LOT collection for the Sixteen Mile Branch Opening Day Collection in collaboration with staff system-wide, ensuring that set budgets are adhered to, and following the full processes and tasks set within the Collections department for a new collection setup.

  • Exhibit awareness of new and emerging trends in library collections, services and programs
Your experience and educational background:

  • Masters in Library and Information Science (MLIS)
  • Minimum two (2) years public library experience
  • Extensive knowledge of library resources in digital and physical formats
  • Proficiency with new and emergent technologies with a focus on those that could be offered in a public library/loanable setting
  • Experience with Microsoft Office applications, computers, mobile devices, social media applications and technology
  • Experience in collection development, maintenance: assessing collection needs, evaluating resources, determining appropriate format for specific resources, managing budgets
  • Experience with integrated library systems, all modules
  • Knowledge of acquisitions processes and cataloguing standards (e.g. Dewey Decimal System, AACR2, RDA) would be an asset
