AppleCare Digital Taxonomist/Ontologist

We are looking for a hardworking, leader who will set and share the vision for taxonomy, metadata, and ontology management and governance across the AppleCare digital channels. Using these critical backend capabilities, you will help bring multifaceted customer experiences to life by participating on numerous teams and multi-functional programs. You will collaborate with data scientists, product owners, and engineering to deploy ML and automation where appropriate. You will also lead efforts to design effective content management systems and reporting that support the organizations ever growing need for important information.

In this role, you'll work across the organization and across a broad range of channels. Our multi-functional teams include designers, business intelligence leaders, researchers, writers, strategists, and product owners.

This opportunity can be based in Austin, TX or Raleigh, N.C.

Key Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience in developing taxonomies or ontologies to support front and backend systems
  • Experience in Information Architecture with a proven track record of enabling outstanding customer experiences and internal content management solutions
  • Deep knowledge of controlled vocabularies, taxonomy classification, metadata, data mapping, schemas, and ontologies (whatever it takes to lead and deliver extraordinary digital content and solutions)
  • Experience with crafting sophisticated ontologies and graph data bases
  • Experience building and structuring taxonomies and metadata for machine learning classification systems
  • Ability to understand the impacts of information design on existing technical solutions
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to influence others
  • Teammate that enjoys working with a diverse global team
  • Comfort with ambiguity and passionate about experimentation
Description

  • Define and lead the foundational taxonomies, ontologies, metadata, schemas, and models required to support content/solutions management and delivery across AppleCare Digital’s diverse channels e.g. website, communities, and apps (Enable Internal and external customer facing solutions).
  • Proactively collaborate with internal teams on the best approach for content/solutions delivery across the AppleCare Digital Assets.
  • Collaborate with domain experts and Data Scientists to establish scalable workflows and standards and to inject automation into the system where applicable.
  • Collaborate with Product Owners, Data Scientists and IT partners on effective technical solutions to host taxonomy solutions.
  • Lead the AppleCare Digital Taxonomy Governance Team where sophisticated decisions are decided, analyzed, implemented, and proactively communicated throughout the organization.
  • Lead timely change request and maintenance processes for all core taxonomy/metadata solutions.
  • Evangelize and educate the organization on the importance of taxonomies, ontologies, metadata etc. and the need for adhering to governed standard
Education & Experience

  • Master’s degree in Library / Information Science, Computer Science or related field.
Additional Requirements

  • Preferred skills/knowledge with Cypher, Gremlin, or SPARQL query languages and Neo4j, Apache TinkerPop, or other graph database solutions
