New features in ResourceSpace 10.4

Montala have just released an update to its DAM platform, ResourceSpace.  Version 10.4 includes an improved resource view page that’s more compact and combines preview sizes into a dropdown.  New options for sharing resources have also been introduced, including an expiry date and password-protection for external shares.  Additional changes include improved batch editing functions, featured collection cover options, IIIF (International Image Interoperability Framework) support for video and audio files, faster uploads, improved CSV uploads, and four new languages (Czech, Hindi, Korean and Turkish).

Fotoware and zetcom for integrated asset and collection management

Digital Asset Management software provider Fotoware has recently announced its partnership with zetcom, makers of the MuseumPlus collection management platform, which primarily serves the GLAM (galleries, libraries, archives and museums) and not-for-profit sectors.  According to the press release, the seamless integration between the two platforms will allow users “to automatically fetch data from the CMS while browsing content within the DAM, and vice versa…ensuring a single source for truth for all visuals.”

Your Taxonomy Governance Plan Is Incomplete without a Documentation Maintenance Plan

Although keeping a taxonomy maintained may form part of your organisation’s regular housekeeping duties, without an adequate log to track the various changes, updates and dependencies the taxonomy has gone through, things can get messy, especially when migrating to a new system.  To highlight this, taxonomist Erik Lee has posted an article discussing the importance of incorporating a documentation maintenance plan into your governance policy along with a series of practical tips and questions to consider.

Subject Headings vs. Taxonomies

Continuing with the theme of taxonomies, author Heather Hedden expands on the differences between subject heading schemes and taxonomies following a question during her recent appearance at the annual SLA conference.  Heather breaks down the various similarities and differences between the two classification systems, and how modern information taxonomies have inherited features and characteristics from both.

OopsGPT

Matteo Wong, tech writer for The Atlantic, takes a look at SearchGPT, the latest development from ChatGPT creator OpenAI.  Although not yet publicly available, a demonstration video for the product has already attracted attention for providing erroneous results for a simple request.  Matteo lists numerous other ‘mishaps’ that have occurred as tech companies rush to incorporate AI into their search engines, highlighting a consistent pattern of hype followed by failure.
