The Efficiency Scam From AI and Big Tech

Digital customer experience guru Gerry McGovern takes a look at the conflicting efficiency claims by AI, and how the energy and resources required for it to operate far outweigh its benefits, many of which are yet to materialise.  Gerry takes stock of AI’s impact so far: advertising, marketing spam, misinformation, badly written code, mediocre art, and all manner of fake news, journals, scientific papers and biographies.  However, Gerry warns that by far the greatest threat posed by AI is its environmental impact, and how, in stark contrast to its promises of terraforming a more efficient digital landscape, is set to become one of the largest polluters of the planet.

The key to an effective DAM system lies in a dedicated DAM Dream Team

This recent blog post from DAM provider QBank explores the strategies and roles required in order to build the perfect DAM team.  The article breaks the process into four distinct phases: preparation and planning, implementation and customisation, training and onboard, and operation and ongoing optimisation.  Topics covered include attaining organisational buy-in, the key staff roles, and user adoption.  However, there’s no mention of the vendor selection process, so you may wish to consult the DAM News Industry Report and Buyer’s Guide, which provides over 500 pages of in-depth vendor analysis, exclusive advice on selecting, shortlisting and implementing enterprise DAM systems, and a wealth of invaluable industry insights.

The DAM System Pricing Mystery

Yvan Cohen, Director and co-founder of LightRocket DAM, takes a look at the murky world of DAM system pricing, and how very few vendors publish their fees and pricing models, choosing instead to lure you into handing over your contact details to receive a quote.  Yvan highlights how it’s often the more expensive DAM providers that partake in this predictable and tiring price tango, designed to give the impression of quality and a perception of prestige, with little to do with actual value for money, expertise or product quality.  Yvan admits to his own company being conflicted about such practices, ultimately opting to join the dance by not disclosing their costs.  For further information about DAM vendor pricing trends, check out the DAM News Vendor Pricing Survey (an updated edition is scheduled for later this year).

How to Increase DAM User Adoption

Lead Implementation Consultant at DAM provider Acquia, Rachel Kohl, provides a number of tips and insights for improving DAM user adoption.  Rachel describes a number of common symptoms that indicate low user adoption and participation levels, including a lack of system awareness, insufficient training, poor search results, inconsistent uploads, and inaccurate or incomplete metadata.  Although tailored towards their own platform, there’s a couple of useful tips included.
