DAM News Round-Up – 21st October 2024

A selection of DAM-related articles from around the web, sourced by the DAM News editorial team.

Emerging Trends in DAM

In case you missed it, my colleague and seasoned DAM professional Ralph Windsor has recently written an article for French Digital Asset Management vendor Wedia.  Ralph presents a detailed look at the emerging trends within DAM, covering AI, large language models (LLM), multilingual metadata, advanced search, provision for 3D assets, and localisation.  The article also highlights how DAM’s traditional role as a document and media repository will diminish as it becomes more of a strategic hub, orchestrating content operations and interoperability across the broader digital asset supply chain.

5 Key Trends shaping the future of Digital asset Management

Continuing with the theme of emerging trends in DAM, this blog post from software provider QBank highlights five key trends that they presented at their recent DAM Day conference.  Aspects and features covered include DAM’s increasing scope across the whole organisation, AI-assisted metadata management such as autotagging, improved governance, rights and compliance mechanisms, the benefits of an API-first DAM, and how a growing focus on sustainable technology is impacting the way DAM operates by reducing its environmental impact.

Activo and PIMVendors Strategic Partnership

DAM News owners Activo Consulting have announced a strategic partnership with PIMVendors – a vendor-neutral Product Information Management (PIM) consultancy and solutions provider from the Netherlands.  DAM News have already met with PIMVendors to discuss combining our technical knowledge and industry expertise to promote DAM, PIM and CMS to a wider audience, both educational and professional.  PIMVendors will also be in attendance as a gold sponsor at this year’s OnDAM conference in Paris.

DAM Is Not Enough

DAM veteran and metadata specialist John Horodyski presents a brief history of Digital Asset Management, and looks towards a future where DAM sits at the centre of the martech stack.  The article also covers artificial intelligence and how it’s set to enhance DAM at every step of the digital asset content lifecycle, from automated metadata to brand management and improved discoverability.

Fotoware: 30 years of innovation and growth

Digital Asset Management platform provider and DAM News sponsor Fotoware take a look back at their 30 year history, from a small Norwegian start-up to a global software company operating in over 40 countries.  Fotoware was acquired by Viking Ventures in 2020 and have since acquired six further acquisitions, including Swiss DAM provider Picturepark, in 2022.  The article covers their emergence as one of the world’s first dedicated DAM systems, and highlights their efforts to embrace diversity and decrease the gender gap, with almost 50% of their staff now being female.
