Featured Job – Music Cataloguer, British Library – 16th December 2022
This week’s featured opportunity is for a Music Cataloguer with the British Library. Operating under the Content and Metadata Processing team out of St. Pancras, London, the successful applicant will be an experienced cataloguer with good musical knowledge. Key responsibilities will include cataloguing printed music using standards such as MARC21, AACR2 and Dewey DC, sorting, weeding, and arranging manuscripts, contributing to the development and improvement of the library’s cataloguing, archiving and indexing standards and processes, and assisting in the training of other team members. A working knowledge of at least one foreign language is preferable, along with a degree in music or equivalent experience.
“The post holder will join a small team responsible for cataloguing printed and manuscript music materials. Tasks will include creating and deriving catalogue records for printed music using RDA and MARC21, supporting Legal Deposit claiming, and interpreting and implementing professional cataloguing standards. The role gives scope for the post holder to help to strengthen the British Library as a centre of excellence for cataloguing music-related materials, and to contribute to the development of best practices in relation to changes in bibliographic standards, in particular RDA development and the FAST subject vocabulary.” [Read More]
