DAM News Round-Up – 6th January 2020
A collection of recent DAM-related articles from around the web, sourced from DAM Federation member, Planet DAM.
Taxonomy expert and author of The Accidental Taxonomist Heather Hedden ended the year with an article presenting feedback from a survey she has previously conducted to gauge interest in taxonomy licensing. With over 60 responses to her serious of both broad and specific questions, the feedback provides a valuable insight into the concerns, requirements and decisions that businesses are facing when deciding whether or not to license third party taxonomies. Statistics include purposes served, the size range of the taxonomy, and the various formats the respondents would be interested in licensing.
3 Key Advantages of Dropbox for Business
Digital Asset Management software provider Canto has provided a simple guide to Dropbox for Business on their blog. Reviewing three main features – speed, admin control and security – this short introduction should act as a basic primer for those considering a simple file management suite as opposed to a fully fledged DAM system. The article also provides a link to a number of alternatives to Dropbox.
2019 in Review: Did the DAM industry live up to 2019 predictions?
DAM and Martech Consultant Kristina Huddart has recently published a LinkedIn article reviewing the DAM industry in 2019, and picks through the evidence to see whether or not it lived up to any of the predictions. The five trend predictions were: the widening gap between mid-range DAM vendors and omni-channel providers, a growing need for rights management and tracking, whether a DAM market bubble is emerging or bursting, whether AI replaced human librarians, and how campaign-level ROI reporting on assets would become a reality. It’s a concise and well-assembled summary and should provide a fairly well-balanced snapshot of DAM in 2019.

This short introduction covers the very basics of security and performance, and provides guidance on certification within Australia and New Zealand (Microsoft’s Azure being the only cloud provider currently certified).
Image Relay is #1 in G2’s Winter 2020 Digital Asset Management Reports
DAM software vendor ImageRelay reached the top spot for the highest rated Digital Asset Management Platform on software review site G2 for Winter 2020. As with many review sites, a good number of contributors were invited to leave feedback with an incentive for doing so (usually a gift voucher). However, we’d still like to congratulate ImageRelay for what appears to be a genuine high level of user satisfaction across numerous criteria including usability, implementation, enterprise and small businesses.
