Nexus One: Google’s Flash to Apple’s Emperor Ming?
According to the latest Adobe blog Google’s Nexus One iPhone clone competitor will support Flash. Apart from native HTML 5 support for video and the inexorable march of AJAX, a factor weakening Flash’s current dominance of the online video market was the lack of support for the format on iPhones. It will be interesting to see if Nexus One can give the iPhone a run for its money and help restore Adobe’s flagging fortunes. At the same time, as reported elsewhere Google have also acquired On2, who developed the codecs originally used for FLV.
One thing is for sure, Adobe’s position as natural choice of web video distribution technology will be under serious threat in the forthcoming decade.
