Museum Data Service project data schema

The Collections Trust (UK) addresses the importance of using a structured data schema when managing museum collections, and highlights some of the most obvious shortcomings of the Spectrum standard, including: uncertainty about what information to capture; how, where, and the volume data to store in relation to their organisation’s collection management system; and concerns about how to future-proof such data for long-term preservation and accessibility.  The recently launched Museum Data Service goes some way to standardising collections information and the article provides a breakdown of their data MDS level 4 schema.
