Aperture 3 Removes IPTC Extension And PLUS Embedded Metadata
As reported by David Riecks on ControlledVocabulary.com Apple’s Aperture 3 does not preserve IPTC Extension and PLUS embedded metadata from PhotoShop files:
“IPTC Extension and PLUS metadata does not survive a round-trip through Aperture 3. I had tested this previously with Photoshop CS5 beta, but as that product had not been publicly released, I decided to hold off mentioning this in the February release. Here is the situation. If I bring an image that has IPTC Core, IPTC Extension, and PLUS metadata (all schemas are stored in XMP) only the IPTC Core metadata is preserved in the TIFF and JPEG images that are exported from Aperture 3.0.3 (and yes this is after applying Apples latest 10.6.4 update). PSD files do not have IPTC Extension or PLUS metadata, and only a portion of the IPTC Core metadata (as noted above). This is the case whether viewed in Photoshop, or Bridge.” [Read More]
To work around this issue, David recommends exporting files as TIFF, and then saving as PSD once the file is opened in Photoshop.
