Is Your AI-Generated Content Protected by US Copyright?

This recent article explores the current copyright status of artwork and content created by AI-assisted apps such as DALL-E, Midjourney and ChatGPT.  In light of the U.S Copyright’s Office recent attempts to clarify the licensing status of non-human creations (which includes upholding a refusal to copyright AI-generated imagery in a graphic novel), the bottom line is to make sure that you’re fully aware of who the real author is of your AI-generated content, along with any corresponding limitations and restrictions on its usage.

Coca-Cola Creates AI Platform That Lets People Use Its Visual Assets To Create Works Of Art

Not to miss out on the wave of AI-assisted image generation, global drinks manufacturer Coca-Cola have jumped on the bandwagon by announcing their own app that allows the use of its visual assets to create works of art.  Working with OpenAI’s DALL-E and ChatGPT-4, its network marketing partner WPP, and a series of other artists, the ‘Create Real Magic‘ platform allows users to incorporate elements of the company’s brand assets into their creations, including the iconic font, contour bottle, Santa Claus and polar bears.  Artworks can also be entered into a contest with the chance to feature on the billboards in New York’s Times Square.

This recent article from CMS platform provider Umbraco explores the concept of composable Digital Experience Platforms (DXP) and how, as a core component of the modern software stack, a DAM system can be integrated to act as much more than just a digital asset library.  Numerous integrations between CMS and DAM are covered, including workflow automation, metadata and digital rights management, content distribution, and analytics.

Feature Article: DAM and OpenAI’s GPT-4 Image Input Support

In this exclusive feature article, ResourceSpace‘s Dan Huby investigates the latest version of OpenAI’s GPT-4 platform, and how the introduction of image input support has huge implications for workflow improvement, integration and automation when used in tandem with a DAM system.  Dan covers its potential uses in a number of key areas, including categorisation and tagging, improved descriptions via image recognition, automated content creation, content moderation, and using the technology as a creative sidekick when developing new ideas.

Solving the trust issue with generative AI content

Visual tech specialist and founder of online magazine Kaptur, Paul Melcher, highlights the challenges posed by the emergence and rapid growth of AI-assisted image generation.  Referencing a 2017 study by Warwick University which demonstrates the inability of humans to distinguish at least a third of “fake” or manipulated images (this figure is undoubtedly higher since the arrival of apps such as DALL-E), the article stresses how AI software developers need to take a proactive stance to ensure the ethical, transparent and responsible use of synthetic media, regardless of whether or not the regulatory world has caught up with it.
