Introducing Make-A-Video: An AI system that generates videos from text
Meta (formerly Facebook) has recently announced its new AI video creation system. The unimaginatively named ‘Make-A-Video’ joins the growing number of AI image creation tools such as DALL-E, Midjourney and Google’s Imagen that use a prompt to generate original images. As the name suggests, Meta’s offering allows the creation of videos and is based on publicly available datasets. Make-A-Video is currently in a research phase, although you can sign up for future access via their website.
Author and Taxonomist Heather Hedden provides an update on her activities in the field, including her appearance at the recent SEMANTiCS conference in Austria, and how the definition and role of taxonomies changes depending on its context. Heather explains how language differs from taxonomies in the broader information landscape and how Web 3.0 or the ‘semantic web’ is a kind of extension where information is designed to be linked by meaning and not simply via the content and links therein.
