Background of this search:

The Knowledge and Learning Division of the Knowledge, Innovation, and Communication Sector (KIC/KLD) is looking for an energetic professional with a background in taxonomy and metadata to join the Felipe Herrera Library team.  Candidates should have a strong interest in seamlessly connecting people with knowledge resources, and a proactive attitude towards information dissemination, access, and discovery.

The team’s mission:

The Felipe Herrera Library offers guidance and tools related to classifying, curating, identifying, opening, and using knowledge.  It is also responsible for managing the Bank's digital and physical repositories of publications and its open data portal.  We are a team of seasoned professionals excited about making relevant knowledge widely available to be used, shared, and built upon.

What you’ll do:

  • Regularly update the faceted taxonomy used to classify Bank knowledge products and coordinate the classification process in the PoolParty platform. 
  • Implement changes to existing taxonomies, structures and tools as needed.
  • Serve as a point of quality control for the application of metadata to publications, data sets, and other resources, and ensure their traceability across integrated systems.
  • Regularly assess the use of the taxonomy in the various systems to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Coordinate the classification of knowledge assets and documents using a word embeddings language model (different than the taxonomy) and regularly update the training corpus to ensure that current vocabulary is always present.
  • Update and implement standards and good practices related to taxonomy management and consolidate them in a reference guide.
  • Generate guides and training material for the Felipe Herrera Library intranet pages and deliver training sessions to clients related to classification and metadata practices, as needed.
  • Provide librarian services support to internal client departments, including advising on and supporting publications procedures; interactive publications; supporting the use of subscription services; compiling reference resources and data; performing subject area research; and other library related services as needed.
  • Participate as a member of the Reference team by providing customer service support for the products and services offered by the Felipe Herrera Library. 
  • Other tasks as agreed with supervisor. 

What you’ll need:

  • Citizenship: You are a citizen of one of our 48-member countries. We may offer assistance with relocation and visa applications for you and your eligible dependents. 
  • Consanguinity: You have no family members (up to fourth degree of consanguinity and second degree of affinity, including spouse) working at the IDB Group. 
  • Education: Master's degree in Information Sciences, Information Management, Library Services, Data analysis, Information Technology, or another related field. 
  • Experience: Minimum five years of relevant professional experience. 
  • Languages: Spanish and English fluency required.  Portuguese and/or French a plus.  

Core and Technical Competencies:

  • Experience with the creation and maintenance of taxonomies, ontologies, and/or knowledge graphs.
  • Experience with the PoolParty Semantic Suite platform.
  • Familiarity with metadata standards, including the W3C RDF standard. 
  • Basic database management skills, including basic query ability in SPRQL and other query languages, as well as the ability to perform API calls in a variety of contexts.
  • Experience working with ETL processes is a plus.
  • Familiarity with deep learning generated word embeddings language models also desired.
  • Basic html and CSS knowledge, as well as familiarity with content management systems such as Drupal or WordPress.
  • Experience coordinating tasks with product vendors or external partners.
  • Familiarity with publications and/or library processes desirable. 
  • Able to learn new processes quickly, thoroughly, and confidently.  
  • Ability to work independently and manage own time effectively. 
  • Friendly and competent customer service disposition. 
  • Experience working in a customer facing role desirable.  
  • Strong capacity to synthesize and communicate ideas, policies, and research findings to clients and teammates.
