Taxonomist - 12 Month Fixed Term Contract

The Taxonomist plays a key role in our Digital business. This role will have responsibility for building a first-class navigation taxonomy as well as ontologies to optimise asset discovery, content relationships (e.g., items to items, categories to categories, brands, services, etc.), meta-data for tagging, tagging services and more.

This role requires a strong commitment to teamwork and communication, and must be approachable, passionate, and proactive, with skills/aptitude to take the unknown and turn it into the understood and actionable. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected, along with a passion for learning and measurably improving customer outcomes.

What you need to do

  • Engage Business Unit stakeholders as key partner, internal consultant, and metadata expert to develop metadata requirements and governance/testing processes to ensure metadata quality and integrity
  • Develop and manage taxonomies, ontologies and metadata specifications to drive content discovery, retrieval, and analysis.
  • Coordinate cross-functional projects with a broad range of product owners, subject matter experts, system architects/engineers, etc.
  • Conduct ongoing analysis of data models, taxonomies, business processes and technology. Monitor relevant open standards and engage in both internal and external standards development where appropriate
What you need to know and show

  • Degree in Library or Information Science (Masters level preferred) or equivalent professional experience
  • Preferable that you will have two-plus years of experience working with metadata/taxonomy/ontologies
  • Experience developing, managing, integrating and mapping taxonomies/ontologies and metadata schemas for organizing/enriching content assets.
  • Working knowledge of semantic data modelling and design standards, tools, technologies such as relational databases, RDF/triple stores, XML, etc.
  • Strong project management skills and experience leading large complex projects or new process initiatives related to metadata solutions
  • Ability to collaborate and effectively communicate with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Strong analytical skills to capture user needs/epics and transform them into business solutions
  • Fluency in Taxonomy Management tools/systems, e.g., Synaptica, PoolParty, Smartlogic, a plus
  • Experience in e-commerce environments a plus
  • Strong networking skills
  • Ability to research current trends and technology and apply information to ongoing or proposed initiatives
  • Ability to assess technology impact on process efficiency and implement on internal workflows
  • Passion for driving innovation and change management
  • Great team player
