The opportunity
You will have a lead role in defining appropriate and effective metadata and discovery policies for Cardiff Met’s Library Service and ensuring successful adoption / evaluation of such.
You will be responsible for the creation, sourcing and maintenance of high-quality metadata.
You will work collaboratively, contributing to and monitoring sector developments and changing requirements to ensure the library adheres to best practice and maintains efficient workflows.

As Metadata Librarian you will join Technical Services, we are a small, friendly, high performing team within Library Services and we have expertise and specialisms in Acquisitions and E-resource Management, Library Systems, Copyright and Licensing, Interlibrary Loans and Metadata.
You will have a lead role in defining appropriate and effective metadata and discovery policies for Cardiff Met’s Library Service and ensuring successful adoption / evaluation of such.
You will be responsible for the creation, sourcing and maintenance of high-quality metadata.
You will work collaboratively, contributing to and monitoring sector developments and changing requirements to ensure the library adheres to best practice and maintains efficient workflows.
What we are looking for
- Degree qualification in a Library, information science or management discipline.
- Experience of cataloguing to international cataloguing standards and classifying using Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC).
- Sound understanding of emerging cataloguing standards, metadata workflows and current national initiatives, e.g. Plan M and the NBK, would be desirable.
- Proficient IT and data handling skills.
- Experience in using library technologies that support metadata management workflows, e.g. OpenRefine or MarcEdit would be desirable.
- Ability to problem solve, and to identify and implement practical solutions.
- Evidence of undertaking continuous professional development (CPD).
