The Director, Content Strategy is a client-facing, strategic-thinking, creative counterpart with strong communication skills. They lead the Content Strategy practice within the Experience Design team and are responsible for leading a team focused on delivering best-in-class content strategy.

This position will focus on providing day-to-day leadership with critical internal Content Strategy partners, while developing relationships, building rapport, and creating opportunities for additional partnership.

The ideal candidate has demonstrable experience in managing and leading other content strategists, defining content strategies that bridge the gap between users’ needs and business goals. They are comfortable collaborating with a cross-functional team (User Experience, User Interface Design, Creative, Strategy, Social, Data & Analytics, Marketing Automation, Account Management, Project Management, Development) and consulting with clients across multiple industries.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement, and maintain editorial style guides, scalable content models, messaging strategies, taxonomies, metadata frameworks, and content development and/or migration plans.
  • Analyze and gather key business and user insights, apply strategic planning to create long-term vision for content that’s being generated for a wide range of clients.
  • Validate project plans and ensure key milestones, dependencies, and timelines are communicated across stakeholders and partners.
  • Compellingly communicate a brand’s story and envision how content will be presented or distributed in formats other than text-based articles, such as infographics or multimedia.
  • Conduct content inventories and audits, competitive audits and secondary research in order to make recommendations on content standards, information architecture, suggested improvements, and content gaps.
  • Perform pre- and post-launch SEO tasks such as data-driven on-page optimizations, keyword research, and monitoring and evaluating web analytics dashboards in order to develop and recommend SEO strategies.
  • Perform regular SEO site health assessments to identify issues with site performance, crawler access, duplicate content, structured data, etc. Develop solutions for site health issues and work with the development team to test and implement updates.
  • Review and/or edit materials for consistency, tone and voice, grammatical accuracy, editorial style, and user understanding.  
  • Identify roadblocks and collaborate with Creative, Experience design, Strategy, Data & Analytics, and Development to find solutions to content challenges drive value in our end-to-end consumer experiences.
  • Seek opportunities to optimize, test, or advance new capabilities and share learnings across the broader organization.
  • Drive the discovery of industry trends and emerging best practices in Content and overall Experience Design.
  • Maintain an environment that attracts and retains talented content strategists and storytellers.
  • Work on interdisciplinary team and lead content strategy for digital products and large-scale websites
  • Support and grow a team of content strategists who vary in skill from technical content strategy to taxonomy, copy writing, and governance.
  • Be a source of inspiration, forward-thinking, and big ideas for digital content and SEO.
  • Seek out opportunities to grow content and SEO business through new and existing clients.
  • Identify areas of opportunity in process and deliverables.
  • Create and implement new solutions to improve upon existing approaches, processes, and deliverables.
Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
  • Non-degreed professionals may qualify with equivalent years of related work experience.
  • 7 - 10 years of experience preferred.
  • Agency experience preferred.
  • Must have experience using a variety of content management systems such as Sitecore, Wordpress, and Kentico.
  • Must have an understanding of Google Analytics.
  • Must understand user experience and strong search engine optimization (SEO) skills.
  • Familiarity with SEO tools such as Screaming Frog and/or Moz a plus.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.
  • Communicating ideas effectively in a group setting.
  • Experience in client-facing roles and finding solutions for complex client needs.
  • Familiarity with basic HTML content formatting a plus.
