DNI is seeking to hire an Contract Digital Repository and Cataloging Librarain (DRCL). The DRCL would contribute to the existing librarian team as we complete large and complex bulk electronic resource ingest projects. Further the Contract Digital Repository and Cataloging Librarian would guide projects to improve the accuracy, completeness, and sufficiency of legacy metadata. The DRCL could also engage in a project to improve Serials representation in Stacks. The DRCL would also guide target projects to deduplicate existing records and add appropriate relationships to related content. The DRCL would be responsible for documenting existing and new workflows for immediate and future use. The DRCL will perform original, copy, and repair cataloging as a regular part of their duties.

- Guide and participate in projects to enhance, harmonize, and correct bibliographic metadata for public health publications created or funded by the CDC and its centers; to ensure CDC research is Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Re-useable to the greatest extent possible;
- Guide and participate serial and series cataloging enhancements and harmonization to improve cataloger and user experiences;
- Guide and participate in the implementation and extension of various types of persistent identifiers into KM systems and Stacks;
- Ensure the proper use and application of metadata fields based on international standards;
- Research, suggest, and implement emerging library and repository standards to improve workflows, metadata presentation, and user experience;
- Document existing workflows and propose new workflows;
- Guide the automation of routine tasks; and,
- Liaise with CDC units to ensure the content they create and submit to Stacks is described and shared in fulfilment of federal Public Access goals.
Experience Level:
- Applicants for this position should have several years documented experience with digital repository platforms and/or in librarianship working with research outputs or scholarly research publications.
- The successful applicant has received a Master's degree in Library and Information Science (MLIS, MLS, MIS) or similar.
- The applicant must have 4 or more years of cataloging experience.
- The applicant must be able to generate metadata cataloging records with a high degree of accuracy.
- The applicant should have 4 or more years of experience cataloging in a cataloging utility.
- The applicant should 4 or more years working with data cleaning tools, spreadsheets, and text editors to reformat metadata.
- The applicant should be conversant with Resource Description and Access (RDA) cataloging guidelines and have experience using the RDA Toolkit to guide application of cataloging rules. Experience with Anglo-American Cataloging Rules (AACR2), or other standard library cataloging schema is also welcome.
- The applicant should have 4 or more years of experience in the application of controlled vocabularies, such as Library of Congress Subject Headings (LCSH), Library of Congress Authorities, Medical Subject Headings (MeSH), or similar.
- The applicant must be able to create and communicate workflows and written instructions in an understandable way, to guide the work of other team members.
- The applicant should have a keen eye for detail.
- The applicant must be able to communicate requests and the need for corrections in a collegial manner.
- The applicant must be able to work to deadlines.
- The applicant mut be able to work without supervision as appropriate.
- The applicant must be able to work collaboratively in a diverse environment.
- The applicant must be able to work in a remote-based work environment. This means experience using email clients (such as Outlook or others) and video conferencing platforms (such as Teams, Zoom, or others).
- Applicants engaged with global Open Science and U.S. federal Public Access policies and goals will be given higher priority.
- Applicants who a keen interest and experience in sharing federal research outputs with the public will be given higher priority.
- Applicants with experience implementing persistent identifiers for resources, people, and entities will be given higher priority.
- Applicants with text mining experience will be given higher priority.
- Applicants with workflow documentation experience will be given higher priority.
- Applicants with coding and automation skills will be given higher priority.
