This position will work closely with Engineering and Archivists to complete an initial implementation of a DAMS containing roughly 100,000 digital images. The Digital Asset Manager will need to learn current workflows and practices for searching and retrieving assets in order to lend their expertise in refining and building on custom taxonomies and metadata schemas. This position will continue to create and refine procedural documentation for the DAM. Candidates should be able to balance long-term project management skills with the daily fast-paced environment of the gallery as the DAMS grows to encompass assets from each gallery department. The Digital Asset Manager will be a key advocate for the DAMS, and must therefore be able to communicate complex or technical procedures effectively to stakeholders in terms that show an understanding of the gallery’s overarching goals and needs.

- Oversee day-to-day and long-term administration and use of DAMS, while working hands-on with assets, metadata, and users by directly contributing, organizing, describing, and disseminating assets.
- Oversee the creation and editing of internal documentation that provides relevant staff with instructions for the DAMS and how it interacts with the gallery’s existing inventory management system.
- Regularly meet with management to provide updates regarding the progress of implementation projects, usage statistics, timelines, and other assessment data.
- Collaborate across departments to gain a deep understanding of unique information and digital asset needs across the gallery. Provide support for implementing procedures and workflows aimed at reducing redundancies while increasing efficiency and consistency pertaining to the creation, storage, and retrieval of digital assets.
- Partner with the Technology department and key stakeholders to plan system customizations, upgrades, integrations, testing, and maintenance.
- Oversee day-to-day and long-term administration and use of DAMS, while working hands-on with assets, metadata, and users by directly contributing, organizing, describing, and disseminating assets.
- Spend significant time with Archival Material, Photography, Publications, Technology, and Communications departments to develop and support good, sustainable practices for the digital asset lifecycle to ensure the DAMS is used to its greatest potential.
- Educational background in Art History preferred
- Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science preferred but not required
- Experience with collections management systems and digital asset management systems in an administrative capacity
- Understanding of digital image formats and preservation best practices
- Experience creating metadata schemas and file naming conventions
- Familiarity with Adobe Bridge, Photoshop and/or Lightroom
- Understanding of digital rights management, intellectual property law, including “fair use” and similar copyright issues.
- Knowledge of modern and contemporary art practices.
