Writing in the Taxonomy Blog, Marlene Rockmore considers whether the GoodRelations retail ontology developed by Martin Hepp is possibly a “Game Changer” (yes, another one). Marlene discusses a case study with retailer best buy:
“GoodRelations is a retail ontology, which offers facets or classes, metadata descriptions and attributes that are common in the retail industry. It is expressed in RDFa which is a flavor of RDF that works in web browsers. Yahoo Search Monkey supports RDFa, Facebook directed graphs will support RDF. Google snippets also support RDFa.” [Read More]
The GoodRelations ontology is released under a Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 licence and is described as follows:
“GoodRelations is a language that can be used to describe very precisely what your business is offering. Some people call GoodRelations a “data dictionary”, others prefer “schema” or “ontology”. The name, however, is not important. Important is that you can use GoodRelations to create a small data package that describes your products and their features and prices, your stores and opening hours, payment options and the like.” [Read More]
We would be interested to hear how many DAM Vendors (or users) are employing standardised ontologies like GoodRelations in real world Digital Asset Management scenarios (in particular vertical markets like retail).

Following up my request at the end of this article, Martin Hepp has pointed me in the direction of music site: http://bitmunk.com/ as an example of GoodRelations in use on a content repository.
