Kindle Editions Now Outsell Paperbacks On Amazon


We reported last year that Amazon’s Kindle sales had outstripped hardback titles.  As reported today by The BBC, they now outsell paperback editions too:

Amazon announced that in the US since the start of the year it had sold 115 e-book downloads for every 100 paperback books, even excluding its downloads of free books. But it stressed that sales of paperback books were also growing. ‘Last July we announced that Kindle books had passed hardcovers and predicted that Kindle would surpass paperbacks in the second quarter of this year’ said Amazon boss Jeff Bezos.” [Read More]

Earlier this week we talked about the potential opportunities for DAM vendors who can offer products that will help publishers leverage metadata.  With more titles being both produced and read electronically this would appear to be a significant and growing market.
